An interstate adoption attempt had failed. "And why aren't we adopting locally, anyways?" he asked.
"Because Richmond Animal League never has little girl dog-sisters. I've looked for months." I sighed. We knew we wanted two small, mature dogs with short coats. One need a black coat and the other should be tan, or any passable biscuit color. This was so we could name them Biscuit and Molasses, aka Molly. I pulled up RAL's website to show him. "Look, I check it almost every day. There ares only beagles* and...oh..wait. They actually have them! There is a bonded pair named Peanut and Popcorn. But they are clearly a Biscuit and a Molly!"
We put in an application immediately. Richmond Animal League was in contact within the hour, and we were set to meet the next day. These little old ladies were surrendered in terrible physical shape. But more about that later. For Now, Huzzah! We took them home that night. We now have a Biscuit and a Molasses, or Molly, for short.
*Beagles are lovely pets; we just happen to prefer teeny dogs for ourselves. Also, RAL doesn't just hand out dogs will-nilly. We had adopted with them before, and have a multi-year relationship with this rescue group.
