The pups do not understand commands, however, or have leash walking skills, so we have started some lessons in these areas. While trying to get their attention, we have called the girl's names quite a bit. Biscuit has been more difficult to say and is sounds like a scolding. There are a lot of "sssss" sounds, so it verbalizes as a hisssss. Not willing to give up the Biscuit, we have reassigned it as a middle name. Biscuit is now Lucy Biscuit Belly. Which caused Molly to need a longer name, too as she will not be outdone. She is Molly Minnie Muffin.
Despite the medical troubles, our new girls are angels, and trouble free. They don't bark. They are housebroken. There is no aggression or unusual behaviors. Their prior owner, despite being a horribly neglectful person, trained them to have good manners. They do not try to swipe each other's food-a rare quality in any dog, for sure.

Hi folks! My husband and I have been rescuing seniors and special needs dogs for 37 years. We had the honor of keeping Molly and Lucy when they were first delivered to RAL. We kept them from their first Friday, until their surgery date. We fell in love with them, as did our three senior dogs. I promised my husband not to even consider fostering any more, as we fail every time...adopting every dog that we foster. So, I felt we were safe with a four day stay. I take responsibility for the names Peanut and Popcorn...they came in as Elsa and Anna. I love their new names!

Thanks for your comment, Donna. I'd love to meet you and I'll swing by RAL some time to say "hi". Our new pups were well adjusted and social because of your work. We have adopted dogs from foster homes, and also straight from the racetrack or animal shelter. Our fostered dogs have been better adjusted and fall into home life more quickly than those which were not fostered. Foster Moms have been able to explain some unusual behaviors for us, too. For example, we had a dog that ran away every time we tried to pick her up. Her foster mom explained that it was just the "chasing game" she loved to play with another dog from her last home. We thought she hated to be picked up. She just wanted to start a play session.
