Yesterday, when I returned home from work, Lucy's left eye had turned white and hazy. Today, I took her to the eye doctor. He said she had scratched it, gotten it infected and an ulcer had formed. Her steroid drops had aggravated the infection, too. She is on a new regimen to fight the infection. Dr Blair said this is a serious problem. It is weird how quickly this trouble set in. Just look at her shopping cart pictures from two days ago-things then were great. The complications regarding her eye surgery have been difficult. Today was a real downer. I'm sorry that I have so many posts regarding eyeball problems. Truth is, before we even started all of this, I hated eyeballs. I am squeamish regarding eyes and especially eye trauma. I don't like putting drops in any eyes. But I do it for my puppy. I love her. I have fought so hard to make her well. I want us to cross the finish line on all of this, give everyone involved a high five, and to just forget about eyeballs for a while. I wonder if Dr Blair, gets tired of eyeballs, too?

One of the joys of having small, older dogs is the ability to take them with us while running errands. The cooler weather makes this easier, too. Here are some pictures from our trip to Lowes. We enjoyed saying hello to the Boy Scouts and we even scored a few head scratches.
Older pups are more relaxed and confident in new situations, and we have enjoyed taking them with us when we are running around on the weekends. Molly and Lucy love being included, and there is no stress regarding rushing back to the house in time to let them out. We have practiced, starting with shorter car errands at first. So the pups are fine snoozing in the car while we stop at a restaurant or a place that doesn't allow dogs. Watching Dancing With The Stars...Happy Monday! Also, Lucy is maintaining her low eye pressure. Her meds have been reduced to twice a day and we go back next week for our next check up.
So Lucy’s eye pressures have gone down from an abnormally high “34”
to a normal “11” . The bad news is that her eyes were dry, so we have to go back on Monday to check her tear production. Follow up for Lucy's surgery is tommorrow. She seems comfortable, but shell shocked. she had to wait seven hours at the vet before she had her procedure. With one vet out on maternity leave, Dr Blair is trying hard to keep everything going on his own. Animal Eye Care offered yesterday's procedure at a reduced rate, which was very kind.
Lucy returns to Animal Eye Care for laser surgery. She developed glaucoma as a complication of her earlier cataract surgery. Please cross your paws for her today! My hopes are for a permanent fix to her eye pressure problems, being able to eventually discontinue her 4 different eye drops and for a manageable bill for today's surgery.
is around the corner. I brought down the box of teeny dog clothes from the attic. We had a moment of silence for Gracie, who loved her dog sweaters. She would be happy that her clothes are keeping a new dog warm.
With my dinner on my lap, someone is watching me as I watch Cesar Milan. Someone else is napping, tuckered out from our evening walk.
